The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Communication and the Arts from individuals with substantial academic and administrative experience who can help lead the arts at Coastal Carolina University to the next level of excellence.

The Dean is the Senior Officer of the Faculty, the Executive Officer of Augustana Campus, and also a Senior Administrator of the University of Alberta. Candidates must possess a doctorate and qualifications that support appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure in an academic department at UNCP. Since UNCP is in the midst of transitioning its academic profile, the Provost must have the ability to galvanize the faculty to initiate change to support and promote higher levels of academic excellence. The Provost must also recognize and embrace the role of an engaged comprehensive regional institution as a catalyst for change and improvement in the region it serves. In particular, the Provost will be expected to promote essential graduate and undergraduate programs that support regional needs. The Position: The Dean for the College of Arts and Letters reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The College is comprised of the departments of Art, Communication Studies, English, Liberal Studies, Modern Languages and Literatures, Music, Philosophy, and Theatre Arts and Dance. Duties include but are not limited to: provides leadership while working with faculty and department chairs in formulating College policies and in determining goals and objectives; promotes educational strategies that support quality, innovation, and the utilization of technology in teaching and learning; provides oversight in compliance with accreditation standards and reporting; secures and manages the use of resources and also plays a significant leadership role in fundraising and development for the college; and represents the college to the community and other external constituencies.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience: An earned doctorate from an accredited college or university and record of academic accomplishment sufficient for appointment as a full professor in one of the departments of the College. Incumbent must demonstrate significant and successful administrative experience; financial acumen; and proven leadership skills. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and oral skills. Ability to establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff; and an ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Desired Qualifications Administrative experience in a university setting is highly desirable.
