BRET S. DANILOWICZ began his career as a faculty member at University College Dublin, Ireland, conducting research in the fields of coral reef ecology & fisheries biology. His slide into administration started in 2000 when he was appointed as asso- ciate dean of science at University College Dublin where he served until 2004. From 2004-2006 he served as associate dean of the college of science and technology at Georgia Southern University, moving into the role of dean from 2006-2012. In 2012, he began as dean of Arts & Sciences at Oklahoma State University where he still serves today. Danilowicz received a BS Biology from Utica College of Syracuse University and a PhD in Zoology from Duke University. After his administrative career started, he began coursework anew and received an MA Education Leadership & Management from the Open University, UK, followed by an MBA from Georgia Southern Uni- versity. Danilowicz has been an active participant in the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences since 2005, serving on the Board of Directors since 2014 and now also serving as treasurer. He lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with his wife Kay and the two youngest of their four children. ANNE-MARIE MCCARTAN recently completed forty years working at the nation- al, state, and institutional levels of higher education. In 2016, she marked ten years as executive director of the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences. From 2004 to 2006 she was president of the Northwest Campus of Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. Previously, she was provost and dean of the faculty of Richard Bland College of The College of William & Mary. She served the Virginia Community College Sys- tem from 1993 to 1999 as vice chancellor for academic and research services and one year as interim president of Rappahannock Community College. A native of Washington state, McCartan received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Washington and a doctorate in education from Harvard University. She is the author of Unexpected Influence: Women Who Helped Shape the Early Com- munity College Movement (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017) and co-editor (with Carl J. Strikwerda) of Deans & Development: Making the Case for the Liberal Arts & Sciences (CCAS, 2014). She resides in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband John Accordino. About the Authors
