159 The Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences (CCAS), founded in 1965, is the only national organization that exclusively serves arts and sciences deans. CCAS represents a network of 800+ deans and 1200+ associate/assistant deans and fosters excellence in colleges and schools of arts & sciences by: • serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information, and for discussing common problems of higher education as these relate to the arts and sciences • representing the liberal arts and sciences at a national policy-making level • operating on the core principles of inclusive excellence • disseminating information essential to the continuing intellectual and educational strength of the arts and sciences • advocating for the value of the liberal arts and sciences and partners with like-minded institutions to further this message • supporting efforts to improve the intellectual stature and the public understanding of the arts and sciences • being focused on the problems, possibilities, and interests of member institutions Benefits of Membership in CCAS All arts and/or science decanal staff of a participating college within an institution are eligible for the following benefits: • a variety of professional-development seminars, workshops, and webinars • a ‘deans only’ ListServ for discussion of issues and networking with other Deans, and a ListServ for associate and assistant deans • an online searchable database (Deans Knowledge Base) of timely presentations, policy statements, ListServ discussions, and other resources • training workshops for department chairs/heads, either on campus or at a regional location • a mentoring program for new deans and associate/assistant deans • discounted registration fees at seminars and the Annual Meeting • discounted subscription rate for Change Magazine • participation in both the data collection and receipt of the New Hires Survey report • bimonthly newsletters • access to the CCAS membership directory and mailing list for searches, college newsletters, etc. Join CCAS If you are considering having your institution join CCAS, please contact the Executive Director of CCAS.
