By some measures, liberal education has declined. At the same time, its educa- tional goals and characteristics remain as potent as ever. In fact, many of the characteristics of a liberal education are now standard features of many professional programs, including interdisciplinary studies, development of communication skills, undergraduate research experiences, and service learning and community engagement.
