BATTLES UNIVERSITY of NORTHERN COLORADO I found my way to CCAS early in my administrative career; I was struck by the egalitarian sensibility, strong camaraderie, and culture of support among my decanal colleagues. During my presidency, I tapped the personal passion for professional and leadership development that had been fostered through my involvement in CCAS by spearheading a grant proposal to the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE program. The resulting $1.2 million grant, a collaboration between CCAS and the University of Washington from which the CCAS ADVANCE Initia- tive was adapted, supported the creation and implementation of gender equity content and materials into CCAS’ leader- ship development programming for deans and chairs, aiming to motivate and equip those individuals to effect positive change on their campuses. 2008-2009 – – ON-CAMPUS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR CHAIRS/HEADS – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – networking arts & sciences deans – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – networking arts & sciences deans Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences PO Box 8795 Williamsburg VA 23187-8795 (757) 221-1784 ccas@wm.edu www.ccas.net CCAS now offers an on-campus workshop that allows you to: • focus on topics and challenges confronting all chairs—new and experienced, • tailor the content to the particular needs of your College/School, • accommodate all of your chairs/heads, • reduce travel and registration costs and time away from campus, and • encourage team-building among your chairs/heads. The CCAS Leadership Development Workshop for Chairs/Heads is a cost-effective alternative to sending only a few chairs to off-campus chair workshops.
