Julie Candler Hayes Julie Candler Hayes is Professor of French and Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She previously served as a department chair both at UMass and the University of Richmond. A scholar of the French Enlightenment, she also writes on contemporary literary theory, the history and theory of translation, and professional and institutional issues. The recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Humanities Center, she was honored by being named Cheva- lier in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French government in 2010. In 2012-13, she served as president of the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, an interdisciplinary scholarly organiza- tion. She is grateful to Lucia Miller, the Director of Development for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, for her impeccable people skills and insights. Anne-Marie McCartan Since2006,Anne-MariehasservedasExecutiveDirectoroftheCouncil of Colleges of Arts & Sciences. Previously she served as President of the Northwest Campus of Pima Community College (Tucson) and Provost and Dean of Faculty at Richard Bland College of the College of William & Mary (Petersburg, Virginia). She held other leadership positions with the Virginia Community College System, Rappahan- nock Community College, and the State Council of Higher Educa- tion for Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree (history) and master’s degree (public administration) from the University of Wash- ington and holds a doctorate of education from Harvard University.
