xiii It was a pleasure working with a group of deans who were willing to find time in their always-hectic schedules to reflect upon their experi- ences with development. It was not hard to motivate them to partici- pate in this project as these deans have found that raising funds to support their college’s priorities and programs is one of the more satis- fying aspects of their jobs. During the course of preparing this volume, the CCAS Board of Directors has been unstinting in its support under the leadership of Mary Anne Fitzpatrick (University of South Caro- lina, CCAS President 2012-2013) and Nancy A. Gutierrez (University of North Carolina at Charlotte, CCAS President 2013-2014). As even good writers need professional checks, we thank John H. (Jay) Whaley, Jr., for copyediting the work, and Nicole Huff, our proofreader. Finally, CCAS is supported by a talented graphic designer, Jean Pokorny, who worked through the details of bringing the first book published by CCAS to fruition.  Acknowledgements
